Long Term Illness and Corporate Profits
The Most Insidious Example of the Suck
Produced by petrochemical companies’ endocrine disruptors may be responsible for an untold number of long term illnesses. Endocrine disruptors are synthetic hormones uses in plastics, fire retardants, herbicides and pesticides to name a few. As hormones they can freely interact (go in and out of) cells within our bodies or those of other organisms. There are thousands of different types of these endocrine disruptors throughout the food chain. One which has received some attention is BPA or bisphenol A. BPA is used in polycarbonate plastic bottles and in epoxy resin used to line food and beverage cans. BPA has been linked to neurological disorders in developing brains like that of an infant. Canada has banned its use in baby bottles and baby formula containers. The US federal government has not. The endocrine disruptors used in fire retardants can be inhaled from carpets, pajamas, mattresses, pillows, computers, etc. Endocrine disruptors have been linked to breast, prostate, ovarian and testicular cancers, diabetes, obesity, ADD, and other neurological disorders in laboratory animals. The petrochemical companies are aware of this. Sunoco announced in March 2009 that it would no longer sell BPA for use in baby bottles since they could not guarantee its safety. BPA is only on of thousands of endocrine disrupters produced. By being poisoned at low doses over a long period of time these chemicals produce long term illnesses which in turn require long term care thus adding to the profits of the healthcare industry, non for profit support entities and eventually the death industry. The petrochemical lobbyists are writing the FDA regulations concerning endocrine disruptors. From the cradle to the grave it’s all about the suck.
